I’ve spent the day doing a lot of schoolwork, very light housework, and walking the dog, all while fighting a multi-day headache, so forgive me in advance for the dry writing. I have my BLS Renewal tomorrow morning, so this evening seemed like a great time to try out a new bottle of wine before calling it quits for the day.
So, the Epifanio Rivera Erial 2013 is 100% Tempranillo, but it is still a bit different than the wines that I’ve tasted from the Rioja region (not in a bad way, just different, probably due to the soil I would imagine.)
It took about 10 minutes or so for the wine to open up before I considered it to be drinkable, but once it did, the notes of vanilla, leather, and spice were easy to pick out. Medium-bodied, long finish, moderate acidity, and a beautiful plum color with a ruby rim. I imagine this wine will get better with age, but for now it is still a little young to fully appreciate. Pairs well with a long bubble bath, or a roast, or whatever else you’re into (I chose the bath.) Price point: about $15.00-$22.00.
